The hospital is a 208 bed inpatient facility, with the hospital and nursing school complex consisting of approximately 80 single story brick buildings laid out over a 120 acre site, including 45 staff houses. There is a nominal 45 bed pediatric ward, although the inpatient pediatric census can reach over 100 during the peak malaria season.

Laboratory: Clinical laboratory facilities have recently been upgraded with the completion of a new laboratory building, housing hematology, parasitology/microbiology and biochemistry sections. An automated cell counter for hematology is in place (Cobas-Micros - Roche Diagnostics) as well as a spectrophotometer ( Spectronics 20D) and an automated dry chemistry analyzer (Reflotron). In addition to 4 binocular microscopes, there is equipment for routine bacterial cultures, blood banking, slide staining and basic ELISA testing methods. The lab has liquid nitrogen storage as well as a minus 80-degree and a regular freezer for specimen storage.

Clinical: The hospital consists of 5 main wards and a large pharmacy building, the latter includes a small scale intravenous fluid production plant as well as equipment for preparation of basic ointments and eye drops, including a laminar flow hood. The outpatient section of the hospital consists of a large clinic building, a maternal and child healthcare building, and a nutrition education building which has a small unit for long term nutritional care as well.

The pediatric ward is a 45-bed unit made up of 7 separate care units. Although a pediatric ICU as such does not exist, severely ill patients are cared for in a 13-bed room with more direct observation by the nursing staff. The building includes a treatment room where procedures such as lumbar punctures, intravenous cannula insertion, etc. can be performed. Equipment available for patient care includes 2 oxygen concentrators, an oxygen saturation monitor, intravenous pumps as well as a whirlpool for wound and burn care.

Other equipment in the hospital includes a static and portable x-ray machine, ultrasonography, electrocardiography and audiometry.

Office: The hospital and malaria research offices have copying and duplicating equipment, as well as a number of computers including recent Pentium models with up to date word processing, spreadsheet and statistical software. A full-time office manager manages the day to day running of the malaria research office and coordinates data entry. A new building is currently being constructed within the hospital complex to house the research institute's office and laboratory space, as well as an outpatient clinical facility.
